Basic Full-Body Swedish Massage stimulates all the sensory nerve receptors, contacts all layers and types of tissues, and moves all the major joints of the body. The goal of relaxing the entire body is accomplished by rubbing the muscles with long gliding strokes. Additional techniques include circular pressure applied by the hands and palms, firm kneading, percussion-like tapping, bending and stretching. Lotion or oil is often used to reduce friction and stimulate the skin.
Swedish massage is exceptional for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, improving circulation, gaining flexibility and easing tension.
Deep Tissue Massage is similar to Swedish massage but is used to target knots and release chronic muscle tension. Other benefits include reducing inflammation and softening scar tissue. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons, and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones, and joints).
Deep tissue massage uses strokes against the grain of the muscles, not with the grain as in Swedish massage. Deep tissue tecniques may be slightly uncomfortable and cause soreness that lasts a couple of days before resulting in the desired relaxation and pain relief.
Scar Tissue Release is a modality designed to release scar tissue and realign that tissue from the starting point of the scar to the end point where the line of frozen tissue stops. The technique breaks down the adhesions to increase lymph and blood circulation to the tissue. Since scar tissue has the potential to spread in any direction, including internally into the body and can restrict movement and function anywhere in the body, this treatment can bring lasting relief even from very old scar tissue injuries.
Myofascial Release is a very effective hands-on stretching technique used to treat patients with a variety of soft tissue problems. This technique addresses restrictions in the connective tissue of the body by applying sustained pressure on the fascia allowing it to stretch thoroughly. Fascia is an extremely tough tissue that surrounds every muscle, bone, organ, nerve, and blood vessel, down to the cellular level. This form of therapy requires participation and feedback from the receiver. Lotion or oil is not used for this treatment. This allows me to accurately detect fascia restrictions and apply just the right amount of pressure to facilitate proper release.
Reiki Healing is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "energy force" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "energy force" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stressed out.
Reiki is a simple, natural, and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and always creates a positive healing effect. It works in conjunction with all other medical and therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote rapid recovery.
